Spring is in full bloom in northern Kentucky. In our yard, I have always focused on having perennial flowers or bushes that bloom at different times of the year. I especially like plants that spread or multiply so I can divide and share with other gardeners. We have some Irises that have been in our family for years. They originally came from the farm where my mother grew up in Alpine, Tennessee.
My mother had an amazing home economics teacher back in the late 50’s who taught her many creative skills: sewing, cooking, entertaining, and decorating including flower arranging. Mom is very still talented in all of these areas. She has shared this knowledge as I grew up. She taught me the basic principle of flower arranging and how to use flowers or plants from the yard, fields, or woods. This week I created a flower arrangement from everything in my yard and gave it to a dear friend who has a sweet toddler named (pause) Iris.
